Alvaro Loran Week 6 Reflection Entrepreneurial Journal

Out of all the study materials from this week's reading President Tanner’s article on the importance of self-mastery in making someone successful caught my attention and made me think about how I could improve my own life. I consider myself to be someone who has always focused on having a growth mindset and trying to reach the next achievement. This article really made me think that this self-mastery especially in entrepreneurship can lead me to further success.

President Tanner's focus on avoiding the temptations of the world really stood out to me.  Growing up I thought that success was determined by the amount in someone's bank. However, as I've gotten older and especially as I've read this article I've realized that success is so much more. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that he didn't just say that success was happiness instead he focused on success being becoming better and getting fulfillment from our lives.

The idea of self-mastery as described in the article talks about how both self-improvement and self-discipline are needed in order for someone to be able to improve. I know I've had to face this in my own life as it's easy to try and ignore your own flaws. Instead in my life, I've tried to make sure that I've acknowledged my flaws and worked to overcome them. I believe that individuals can master themselves and gain success as they also work to overcome their flaws and become better people.

One of my favorite things that President Tanner talked about was the importance of maintaining self-mastery throughout your whole life instead of just focusing on goals. Especially in today's society, it's easy to be caught up in goals. However, I do believe that it's very important to enjoy the journey as well as the destination. I feel like it would be miserable to forget who you are on the way to getting to who you want to become.
