Alvaro Loran Week 6 Reflection Entrepreneurial Journal

Out of all the study materials from this week's reading President Tanner’s article on the importance of self-mastery in making someone successful caught my attention and made me think about how I could improve my own life. I consider myself to be someone who has always focused on having a growth mindset and trying to reach the next achievement. This article really made me think that this self-mastery especially in entrepreneurship can lead me to further success. President Tanner's focus on avoiding the temptations of the world really stood out to me.  Growing up I thought that success was determined by the amount in someone's bank. However, as I've gotten older and especially as I've read this article I've realized that success is so much more. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that he didn't just say that success was happiness instead he focused on success being becoming better and getting fulfillment from our lives. The idea of self-mastery as de...

Alvaro Loran Week 4 Reflection Entrepreneurial Journal

Out of all the readings this week Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin's talk, "Little Things Are Important," really stood out to me for my endeavor to become a business owner. I’ve always believed that some of the most important aspects of running my own business will be the ability to create strong relationships with employees as well as the community I want to sell to. Elder Wirthlin's message made me realize that even small acts of kindness and working on small goals can have a large impact on my life over time. I feel like for me every time I think about creating my own business I seem to get overwhelmed and sometimes I get discouraged thinking I'll never be able to reach my goals. However, as Elder Wirthlin talks about even small things and small changes can make a great impact. This was a really great reminder for me as sometimes instead of making small changes I procrastinate large ones and end up getting almost nothing done. I've realized when I've had t...

Alvaro Loran Week 3 Reflection Entrepreneurial Journal

The main thing I learned from the W03 Study Honesty & Business Ethics readings and videos is that being ethical is priceless. The video Why Ethics Are Important stood out to me a lot. I remember in one of my first jobs my manager was very obviously lying and not doing his work. I remember thinking how have his bosses not noticed what he was doing. Pretty soon though they discovered what he was doing and he got fired. I saw him at the store a couple months later and he was angry that they wouldn't get him a recommendation so he was having trouble getting a different job. I remember this lesson sticking with me. It's easy to think that it's okay to lie a couple of times but that becomes a part of who that person is. Whether or not people find out being ethical is important and helps to let people know that person can be trusted. I've always strived to be ethical in my life as I want people to know they can rely on and trust me. One thing I'm looking forward t...
